Simple steps that subscribers can take to link their phone numbers with their National Identity Number (NIN)

Nigerian telecommunication service providers have announced simple steps that subscribers can take to link their phone numbers with their National Identity Number (NIN). It had been reported that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) mandated telcos in the country to block all SIM cards that are not registered with NIN within 2 weeks. This means that failure of the subscribers to update their registration records with operators with NIN will lead to the blocking or disconnection of the line by December 31, 2020, though there has been a huge public outcry about the sudden announcement of the policy and short time frame to implement it. The Nigerian Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has also directed that subscribers can link their NIN to more than one sim card. This can be done by taking their NIN to the office of their service providers.  President Muhammadu Buhari is currently presiding over the 24th virtual Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Physically present at the meeting are Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha, and the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari.

Also present at the Council Chamber are 11 Ministers, the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Dr. Zainab Ahmed, the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola and the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire.

The Head of Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, and other ministers are participating in the council meeting from their various offices in Abuja.

  Troops clear bandits’ camps along Kaduna-Abuja expressway November 18, 2020 Commuters along the Kaduna-Abuja road can now heave sigh of relief as troops on Tuesday cleared identified bandits’camps around Kuku area of Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The Kaduna-Abuja expressway has become the epicenter of a kidnap ring that has made travelling on the route a nightmare.
